The former is not protected from the reaper AFAIK. Prevent autoexpire prevents it from being deleted when disk space runs out. Preserve is to prevent an episode from counting towards a max episode limit Works fine for now, will not work fine soon.
The default auto-expire policy is 'Oldest Show First' the oldest recordings are deleted first. But on a side note, I really need to think about ways to deal with backing that 1.7TiB with 0.5TiB free to my 1.3TiB backup partition as the amount of free space on the 1.7TiB goes down. The default setting is for all scheduled recordings to be eligible for auto-expiration this can be changed in the Settings->TV Settings->General page by manipulating the 'Auto Expire Default' checkbox. Still have 0.5TiB free on my 1.7TiB mythtv partition so I don't have to worry about things getting automatically deleted yet. Any good recipes out there for reducing size (barring commercial cuts.that seems like a lot of work) without losing too much detail since disk storage is probably a lot less lossy than off the air? Is there some option or command that would act upon autoexpire recordings but not explicitly deleted recordings? And a situation where a recording that was set not to autoexpire but not be preserved by some operation?Īlso any good recipes out there for transcoding smaller? At the moment it's recording OTA as-is so I get fairly huge files. There must be some nuanced difference between setting a recording to be "preserved" and disabling "autoexpire" - but can't think of a situation where there would be a distinction. In the mythtv database there's a concept of "preserve" and "autoexpire".
